I’m a huge Maggie Q fan. But I think I’m a bigger fan of being a carnivore. Go figure. I ran across this ad while googling recycling (how you figure?). Made me remember that I have yet to watch Nikita yet. Wonder if its good. I should watch it eating ribs or something. HAHAHAHA
While digging around to see if Mos Def signed to Kanye’s label I found Common’s blog and he posted this Jr. Gong/Nas video. Yeah the song is dope. Yeah it came out couple months ago. But I never seen this vid from the HVW8 crew. HVW8 is one of my most favorite art collective PERIOD! I remember wanting to buy their art catalog that came with a 7″ on the back. Haven’t been keeping up with them, but their roster is so deep and dope that you probably seen a buttload of their stuff. Now they doing stuff with Stones Throw, EA sports, and other monsters. Don’t sleep on these Canadians! I don’t know how they could do this. If you stop the video at different times there’s at least six times where if they stopped painting the piece would be dope as is.
I thought I posted about this earlier but last week I finally got my hands on the Series 2 blindbox packs of lego figures. Sure they jumped on the blind box bandwagon like the dunnys and other toys but hey they are only $3 and they got some cool ones.
Here’s the series 2 lineup. No chase figures. I want a Spartan.
This what the packs look like. I got a karate guy, a popo, and a safari looking guy.
Legos have always been cool my whole life. I never had much money to buy the big sets but I always liked building things. But I could never get next level and make cool looking creations. Check out what someone did by making their own Chinese lion. SICK! From scratch!
By now the internets is a buzzin about the 2Tone Dunny series by Kid Robot that suppose to be a secret but they dropping tomorrow. If you haven’t read my blog by now or been on the lightsleepers website withing ‘uku billion years you would know that our homie Timer aka Malasada Martin aka Chubby Killer aka Angry Woebots got his art thing on lock along side his rapping and bboy tops skills. Well KR finally gave him his due respect and his first production Dunny. Make things crazier is that its one of the chase figures, making it harder to get one and an ebay sellers dream. This blog was suppose to be about how stoked I am for him. Every time he got something dropping I gonna post it on my blog. You gotta let the people know when your homie doing something dope. Here’s my “Timer got a dope dunny” post. At the same time I was sitting on this other post about back in the day Woebots. I decided to merge the two. And time to toot my own horn maybe? Well here it goes. This is after his first Kicks/Hi show…maybe when we did the legal wall with the Evil Monito stencils (whattup Ricky!). I got an email from Nakanari way back telling me he got a custom toy show and was looking for Woes. Now vinyl toys was just arriving on the scene. Dunnys just launched and nobody ever heard of artists making production toys for collectors. I told Nakanari I could easily get him to do the show. I did. That year the Funny Club traveled throughout the US. The toy didn’t do well I guess but Nakanari is still doing well with his toys. Here’s a pic of the Angry Woes funny club toy….his first custom figure show
When I seen this I was blown away. I remember being sad I had to mail this to Orlando. Looking at it now I like it but at the same time its weird to me. This was right around the time the pandas were losing their antenna but weren’t fluffy yet. Still have band-aids though. (look at the new dunny and check the progression).
I also asked if I could do a custom for the show. I did it. Wanted it to have an actual camo shirt (not a paint job) and be emo with frosted hair (I was watching too much Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back….reference the Ben Affleck Good Will Hunting 2 scene). I am bad at painting faces. Emo hair hides everything. Here’s my crappity crap crap. No dunny for me.
I had to dig for this pic for an hour. I had pics I took but not digital. Found this on the http://evilvince.com/christophermay/funny-club-show page. Go look at the other customs. This show was pretty big on dope artists. Damon Soule, Attaboy, Luke Cheuh, Slick, Dez Einswell, Sket One, Andrew Bell, Bwana Spoons, Mad, Thomas Han, Tracy Tubera, Kathie Olivas, Brant Peters, Joe Ledbetter, Gary Baseman, and more. Mine had to be one of the worst ones, but to be in a group show back then with so many heavy hitters that still matter NOW makes me happy.
On to the next one….. I gotta make a better custom toy. Soon come.
Let’s make a soundtrack for the post. Israel Kamakawiwo ole – Hele On To Kauai
I got an invite to kick it on Kaua’i. I said no. Stooops! You crazy. I went!
The airport is mean. Get people playing music. And small. Got coming. Got going. Simple. And got chickens all over the island.
The one place people told me I had to go was Hamuras. So I went. Was good. Saimin. Chicken sticks. Won ton. Shrimp. Standards. Good.
They also known for Lilikoi Chiffon pie. I bought an entire pie and brought it back to the house on Kauai. Ate it every day. Great for breakfast or snack. Took two pies home on the plane. One omiyagi. One for me.
My home away from home in Princeville! Thanks to the Simonetti ‘ohana for letting me stay. Heard Dustin Hoffman was chillin down the road. Rainman! The front yard was the Princeville golf course. Mean.
Down the road is my favorite water spot. Hanalei Bay. Nice houses. No waves.
Hanalei Bay had this pier that you could jump from. That was my fav. One local kid was jumping from the roof of the pier. Mean. The mokes out here also love to camp even more than people in Nanakuli and Waianae. They start camping Thursday morning and leave Monday evening (was labor day weekend). Eh John Hook you bettah watch out look my nice pic. Hahahaha. Not.
My buddy Palmetto don’t wanna drink alone (that’s called alcoholic) so he bought me a lava flow (that’s called social drinking). I didn’t like it. I rather drink pog. Serious.
We went kayaking up Kalihiwai River to the waterfalls. Never take pics cus my camera would fall in the water. This is Wailua falls. Mean.
We also went tubing. Hows this Swiss hummers! Mean.
We went tubing in this old sugar irrigation ditch. Murky! hahaha
After tubing the tour company feeds you lunch. We booked last minute and they bought us subway while everyone else at pitas with turkey, cheese, and salami. Mean. How come everyone surves Maui chips? Even on O’ahu the tour peeps do the Maui chips. And not the onion ones. But they kept it local here and hooked up the Kauai Kookies! Mean.
Our guides singing that Pocahontas theme song. Bruddah could also play the Super Mario Bros. Level 1-1 and the star level on his kamaka. Mean.
Thursday I finally got around to heading to Kapolei Hale and voting early. I like voting before you actually have to vote because you get a free day off and don’t have to waste a Saturday (or a holiday like the general election that falls on a Tuesday). But for some reason the lines were extremely long to vote early. Maybe people getting wise and wanna enjoy the weekend. The main point is to vote. You want things to go your way, then vote for the person gonna make them happen. I voted. Now you do it. I aint gonna say who to vote for, but I ask that you vote for someone that isn’t gonna make a total ban on fireworks! If you want rail, if you don’t want rail, if you want more furloughs, if you want extra mac salad gravy all over, then you better vote! I’m actually working the elections again this year so if you vote in my precinct say whattup!
PS. Sorry for the slacking on here…….I stretched myself way to thin. Lots of plans. Hope they all come through.
I heard rave reviews about Exit Through The Giftshop. The Banksy movie. I’m a huge Banksy fan. And to my surprize they are showing it in Honolulu tonight. But I can’t go. So I did the next best thing and pulled my own shinanigans and watched it. I was excited to see it. Couldn’t wait. But after I watched it I was bummed. I put the movie on a pedestal. Was great to watch Buffmonster, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader, Mr. Andre and Zeus bombing. But then after the Banksy parts the movie made a crazy you turn. What do you expect from Banksy I guess. He’s a genius. But this movie isn’t. BUT THEN AGAIN I WILL BE BUYING THE DVD! Is street art about the money? Is this movie about the street art? Is Banksy about the money? Who knows. All I know is that I still love Banksy’s work. Before this movie was released………after I watched this movie too.
My homies will be speaking at the panel before tonight’s showing. I think I still would have got a ticket if I was able to go.
